Striped marlin and dorado are two of the staple sportfish of Cabo, while the rest of the fishery changes with water temperature and seasonal conditions.
Depending on the season, anglers can encounter striped marlin, blue marlin, black marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, dorado / mahi mahi, wahoo, roosterfish, sierra mackerel, yellowtail, snapper, grouper and amberjack.
Offshore fishing is what made Cabo famous. Depending on the season, captains may target striped, blue, and black marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, dorado, and wahoo.
Fishing grounds change constantly. Experienced crews follow water conditions, bait, temperature breaks, current edges, recent reports, and signs of life.
Some days the best fishing may be relatively close to Land’s End. Other days, finding the right conditions requires traveling farther offshore.
Depending on the season, inshore and coastal fishing can produce roosterfish, sierra mackerel, yellowtail, snapper, grouper, amberjack, and other species.
Inshore fishing can be a great option for families, first-time anglers, shorter trips, anglers specifically targeting roosterfish, light tackle, or days when offshore fishing isn’t the priority.
Cabo San Lucas Marina is located directly in the heart of Cabo San Lucas.
For guests staying in Cabo San Lucas, Pedregal, or nearby areas of the tourist corridor, it is generally the most convenient departure point. Most fishing charters depart early in the morning, so transportation to the marina should be arranged in advance.
Both Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Los Cabos offer excellent fishing. The better departure point depends on where you’re staying, current fishing conditions, the boat you want, and the type of trip you’re planning.
